Sorry but Mary Secole did nothing for the wounded soldiers at best she ran an officers club at worst she was a profiteer. If she was not black or half white Jamaican woman, she would be forgotten to history. I have had correct both my grandkids and their teachers, one of whom admitted quietly that they had to go along with the Secole BS for the sake of their careers.

Dear Mr British Muzzleloader, a question: were guns of this time and circumstance afforded the opportunity to have worke-up loads, or did you purchase a card box of cartridges and got what you got, with associated variable accuracy dependent on how each individual gun enjoyed said ammo? Excellent stuff sir. I was particularly struck by the results of shooting at the "Fenian" targets, most of the hits would have been disabling rather than fatal, which does reflect the casualties reported for Eccles Hill.

This series was definatly interesting.

Another excellent vid with top turnout, locations, photo's, people and shooting. Very interesting series which has taught me about a historical event I wasn't very aware of.

I had one. The 'zero creep' was total BS. The thing was shit because of its BAD recoil, big muzzle blast/flash. OK, I was never a soldier , but that thing no civilian would want, despite the fact that the. 303 British was a very good cartridge

To me the Fenian cannon has the look of being made in a modest but competent engineering workshop keeping within its capability to manufacture rather than from a normal artillery factory. Looks like a decent effort but I doubt if it had more than solid shot to fire. Was it rifled? Well done all those involved in the making of this little series.

my guess is that the cannon is a one of. Bubba got a old gun and tried to modernise it. Do the shell fit a cannon at the time or was that too made by a unknown maker.

Big blobs of lead have significant penetration, I imagine that 2-3 rows of meat targets.would have been affected by each shot

I’ve just been reading about William Walker, the American adventurer who took over Nicaragua in the 1850s. He was part of a wider “filibuster” movement that sought to conquer Latin American countries. This had some support in the American public and even in Congress. Overall , the idea was very controversial. The Fenian project could be thought of as a “northern” filibuster, again with some public support among the American people. It had recent precedent, however outrageous it sounds 150 later.

#301 My opinion is from the American perspective, but this series has been very illuminative. Prior to your series, my perspective of the Fenian story was the very stereotype "drunk Irishman try to invade Canada and are repelled by unprepared farmers," but these videos have been very informative of the reality of what was going on in both camps.

Hey Rob I might be asking for too much but would you do a video about British arms in foreign service, or more specifically the muzzle loading Enfield that are sold to the Kingdom of Siam around the time of king Rama IV or breech loading rifles such as the Snider-Enfield during the time of king Rama V. I understand if you are not able to do that and you don’t have to if you don’t want to; as I don’t want to let’s say put stress on you but I would appreciate it if you do.
